Brad Zaro, MS
President & Chief Executive Officer

Brad holds a Master of Science degree in Biological Sciences and a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. He has over 27 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He started his career as a research chemist at Syntex in 1976, and, later, transferred to the Institute of Clinical Medicine at Syntex as a Clinical Research Associate. In 1987, he joined Triton Biosciences as Manager of Clinical Research. Brad founded Clinimetrics in 1988 and is responsible for finance, strategic planning, as well as overall corporate management. Brad has authored several publications in the field of pharmacology and is an Associate of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology; a member of DIA, ACRP, and AAAS; and is the current President of the College of Science Advisory Board at San Jose State University.


Pamela Wilson, BA
Chief Operations Officer

Pamela holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and joined Clinimetrics in 1993. Most recently, she held the position of Senior Vice President of Operations.

She began her career in clinical operations, during which time she also began a five year association with Syntex and Roche Pharmaceuticals in Palo Alto, CA, and later held the position of Project Manager for more than 15 large Phase II-III clinical trials, primarily in the areas of transplant and oncology. Pamela's focus for both herself and her teams has been one of customer service and teamwork, and she has a reputation for strongly supporting her team while ensuring that timelines are met and budgets maintained.

During her tenure at Clinimetrics, Pamela has also held the positions of Director of Clinical Operations and Vice President of Clinical and Data Management, where she has been an integral part of building the Operations group to more than 150 full-time employees, with all groups providing services on a global scale, as well as clinical staffing support within client organizations. As Chief Operations Officer, Pamela oversees the clinical services that Clinimetrics offers to its biopharmaceutical clientele.


Stu Pollack, CPA, MBA
Chief Financial Officer

Stu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from USC, a Masters of Business Administration from Pepperdine University, and is a Certified Public Accountant. He has over 25 years of experience in finance and accounting, beginning his career as a staff accountant with Arthur Andersen. He then joined TRW as a senior business administrator, followed by a position as Divisional Controller with Sony. After leaving Sony, Stu was Director of Finance and Administration for Scanview, Inc. Stu joined Clinimetrics in 1997 and is responsible for all corporate finance and accounting activities and oversight of Human Resources and Legal Services.


Matthew Smith, MBA
Chief Business Officer

Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Matt has 18 years of experience in clinical research management, business development, and operations within the contract research industry. He began his career in clinical research at International Clinical Research Corporation focusing in the area of Phase I through IV psychiatry and neurology clinical trials. He then joined the CNS division of Quintiles Transnational Corporation with positions of increasing responsibility in clinical operations, project management, and business development. Matt is responsible for managing Clinimetrics' corporate business development efforts and systems related to project management, business modeling, project pricing, proposal development, project backlog, and contracts management.


Les Pennelly, MS
VP, Biostatistics

Les holds a Master of Science degree in Statistics and has 26 years of international drug development experience, from preclinical research through commercial launch. He began his pharmaceutical career with Syntex Research in Biostatistics in 1977, serving in statistical and management positions and rising to the Head of Statistical Programming, and, later, International Biometrics Operations. With the purchase of Syntex by Roche Pharmaceuticals, Les became International Planning/Project Manager for the cytovene program in 1993. He has taught university level statistics courses and served in a consultant role for the biotechnology industry.

Les joined Clinimetrics in 1997, where his responsibilities have included management of all biostatistics and data management operations, as well as information systems. Currently, he is Vice President of Biostatistics and has statistical responsibility for worldwide strategic clinical program development, study design, analysis, and statistical reporting of client studies.


D. Lee Spurgin, Jr., PhD
VP, East Coast U.S. Business Operations

Lee holds a Doctorate degree in Philosophy of Management and a Master of Arts in Management. He has more than 20 years of experience in health services and the pharmaceutical industry in several capacities: technical nursing, clinical research management, clinical operations, project management and business development.

Dr. Spurgin has experience with many therapeutic indications including asthma/allergy, cardiovascular disease, dermatology, HIV/AIDS, medical device, oncology, and solid organ transplant.

In addition to overseeing daily operations of Clinimetrics’ Atlanta business unit, Lee’s responsibilities include managing Eastern US Business Operations, business modeling, and strategic development.


Leigh Ann Vriend, BS
VP, Human Resources

Leigh Ann holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology of Professional and Human Development. She has nearly 20 years of experience in Human Resources. She has 15 years of management experience, seven years as Director of Human Resources for Electroglas, Inc., a multinational provider of automated process management for semiconductor manufacturers.

Leigh Ann has developed organizational development programs to increase internal effectiveness and improve client satisfaction, helped develop strategic business partnerships, has training in employment law, and in-depth experience in compensation design, employee training and development, and performance evaluation. Leigh Ann is responsible for all corporate human resources, administration, legal and facilities services.


Marjorie McCray, MSM
VP, Information Management

Marjorie holds a Master of Science degree in Management and a Bachelor of Science in Human Services Business Administration. She began her pharmaceutical industry career in 1982 with Syntex, Roche Bioscience and Roche Global Development. Her career has taken her through experience in pre-development project finance, managing clinical operations information services, and clinical operations process management.

Marjorie started with Clinimetrics in 2001 working with the Finance department in process management and then transferring to Information Systems and Technology developing a state of the art Information Management department. In addition to overseeing daily operations of all Clinimetrics Information Technology/Systems/Operations, she is accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley systems compliance as well as 21 CFR part 11 validated systems compliance.


Aimee Frazier
VP, Project Management

Aimee holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. She has over 15 years industry experience in preclinical research, clinical research management, operations and business development. Aimee began her career with Syntex as a research chemist before becoming a Clinical Research Associate. Joining Clinimetrics as a CRA over 10 years ago, she has since held management level positions in Clinical Operations and Project Management. In her most recent position, she was responsible for all project management activities for programs serviced from the Atlanta business unit.

As Vice President of Project Management, Aimee has overall responsibility for centralized project management systems and support functions across all Clinimetrics offices and regions. She oversees initiatives related to Project Management standards, budget performance, project tracking, new technologies, training and quality. In addition, she is responsible for working with the business unit heads and service area heads to ensure consistency in project management processes across all regions.


Tracy Doughty, BS
VP, Clinical Operations

Tracy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and has over 15 years of clinical research experience. During her career, Tracy has held several management positions within Clinimetrics including Clinical Recruiting Manager, Sr. Manager of Clinical Operations and Director of Clinical Operations. In her current role as Vice President, Tracy oversees the daily operations of the Clinical department and is responsible for profitability within the United States as well as FTE utilization of all clinical staff. She has played a key role in building the Clinical Operations and Lead CRA groups which provide global staffing support in the field as well as within client organizations.

Tracy joined Clinimetrics in 1998 working as an in-house CRA for several large pharmaceutical and biotech companies including Genentech and Alza. Prior to joining Clinimetrics, she worked for a number of years as a CRC in a cardiovascular anesthesiology practice specializing in both drug and device trials.


Dawn Hill, BS
VP, Business Operations

Dawn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. She has over 15 years of industry experience in the areas of preclinical research, clinical research management, project management and business development. Dawn began her career with Syntex as a research chemist before moving into clinical research. Dawn worked in Clinical Operations at Syntex and Chiron before joining Clinimetrics over 11 years ago. She has since held management level positions in Clinical Operations, Project Management and Business Development.

As Vice President, Business Operations, Dawn has overall responsibility for Project Management and Business Development Operations for the Northwest US region. In addition to overseeing the daily operations of Clinimetrics' San Jose business unit, Dawn's responsibilities include identifying new business with emerging companies, program development and strategic client interactions. Dawn is also a member of the Advisory Board for the Masters of Biotechnology program at San Jose State University.
